The Abdominal Aortic and Junctional Tourniquet Stabilized, or AAJT-S, controls bleeding in the pelvic, inguinal and axillary regions and provides pelvic-fracture stabilization. It is intended as temporary bleeding control until the patient reaches a healthcare facility for further treatment.
An inflatable wedge-shaped bladder presses into the target area. Over the lower abdomen at the umbilicus, it compresses underlying structures including the descending aorta. At the groin or axilla, it compresses the regional structures and major blood vessels.
Securing the Device
A ladder strap and ratcheting buckle tighten the belt, with the tightening apparatus at the front. A D-shaped handle supports gripping with gloved hands. The indicated duration is up to one hour for abdominal application and up to four hours for junctional application.
