The LZI Methamphetamine Enzyme Immunoassay screens human urine for d-methamphetamine at a cutoff of 500 ng/mL. It is intended for professional use on automated clinical chemistry analyzers and can provide qualitative or semi-quantitative results. Semi-quantitative testing supports specimen dilution for confirmation and laboratory quality control.
The assay uses two ready-to-use liquid reagents. Drug in the sample competes with enzyme-labeled methamphetamine for antibody binding. Unbound enzyme remains active and generates a change in absorbance measured at 340 nm, linking the optical signal to drug concentration.
Preliminary Result
The assay provides a preliminary analytical result. Confirmation requires a more specific chemical method, preferably gas or liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. Clinical interpretation also requires professional judgment, particularly for a preliminary positive result.
