Nical Smart Micro digitizes intraoral dental X-ray images stored on reusable phosphor plates. After exposure in the mouth, a plate is removed and scanned with a laser. The stored image is released as light, detected and converted into digital image data for computer viewing.
The system applies image processing such as filtering, gain and offset correction and flat-field correction. Images can be adjusted, stored locally, printed or sent to an archive or PACS. After scanning, the plate is erased for reuse.
Plate Handling
Single-use barrier envelopes cover the plates during patient imaging. The described range handles plate sizes 0 to 3, with a 30 micrometer effective pixel pitch. A computer workstation displays the images; the reader processes plate data rather than generating the X-ray exposure.
