The MD Mattress Device places sutures to approximate soft tissue and prosthetic materials. It is a hand-operated, nonpowered instrument intended for one patient. Its dual-needle mechanism can place stitches, including horizontal mattress stitches, using compatible MD Quick Load Surgical Sutures.
Squeezing the lever advances two curved needles across the tissue jaw to engage needle caps attached to the suture. Releasing the lever retracts the needles and pulls both suture ends through the tissue. A subsequent squeeze-and-release cycle returns the caps and rearms the device.
Positioning and Supply
The tip can angle approximately fifteen degrees in either direction. A rotational knob selects one of six shaft and tip positions. The device is supplied sterile following ethylene oxide sterilization and can place multiple sutures during the same patient procedure.
