NOVATECH TALCAIR is a powder blower for delivering medical-grade talc into the pleural cavity during thoracoscopy. It is indicated for malignant pleural effusion after pleural-fluid drainage. Physicians experienced in thoracoscopy use it with trained staff in a hospital.
A coupling snaps onto a talc vial, and a Luer connector joins a manually operated insufflation bulb to the coupling. Two bulb valves direct airflow one way. Air carries the powder through a semirigid cannula introduced into the pleural cavity.
Materials and Supply
The cannula is polyethylene, the coupling polypropylene, and the bulb and tubing soft PVC. The Luer connector is radiation-grade polycarbonate. The cannula has an effective length of about 42 cm and a 3 mm outside diameter. The device is gamma-sterilized for single use.
