The BD Microtainer QuikHeel Lancet obtains small capillary blood specimens through a heel incision. It is intended for healthcare professionals working with neonates and nonwalking premature or full term infants. The sterile device is used once and contains a stainless steel blade within a housing.
Pressing its button triggers a spring mounted blade along a controlled path. The blade then retracts permanently into the device and cannot be deployed again. This mechanism contains the used blade after the incision and completes the lancing action in a single activation.
