DW-1C is an absorbable polydioxanone suture for soft-tissue approximation where an absorbable material is appropriate. Opposing barbs along the monofilament engage the tissue after placement, holding the approximation without requiring surgical knots.
The barbs run in two directions along the suture’s long axis. The thread is dyed violet using D&C Violet No. 2 and is supplied without an attached needle. Its polydioxanone material gradually degrades in tissue.
Suture Configuration
The subject suture is USP size 1 and has a cog-shaped barb pattern. It is supplied sterile following ethylene oxide gas sterilization. The implanted filament provides the tissue-holding structure during its period of absorption.
