The Verigene Respiratory Virus Plus test cartridge is a laboratory consumable used within the Verigene System to identify respiratory viral nucleic acids. The RV+ assay uses nasopharyngeal swabs from people with respiratory infection symptoms and identifies influenza A and B, influenza A subtypes H1, H3 and 2009 H1N1, and RSV A and B.
After extraction and amplification in separate trays, the prepared sample enters the cartridge. Specific nucleic acid probes and gold nanoparticle detection chemistry capture and identify the amplified targets. The cartridge’s reagent pack supplies successive reagents through microfluidic channels into a sealed hybridization chamber surrounding the capture array.
Reading the Result
After processing, the reagent pack is removed and the remaining slide is placed in the Verigene Reader for optical analysis. Results aid diagnosis alongside clinical and other laboratory findings; a negative result does not exclude influenza or RSV infection.
