POD Packing is an implantable embolization coil used to occlude selected vascular regions. The coil is delivered on a pusher through an introducer sheath. By occupying the treatment area, it excludes blood flow to create stasis and permit thrombosis.
Indications include intracranial aneurysms, other neurovascular abnormalities such as arteriovenous malformations or fistulas, and peripheral arterial or venous embolization. Use is intended for physicians trained in interventional techniques. The packing coil has a two-dimensional wave shape.

Delivery and Detachment
The pusher includes a radiopaque positioning marker, distal detachment tip and pull wire. A separately packaged handle performs coil detachments during one procedure. Packing-coil lengths range from 2 to 60 cm, and the system is sterilized with ethylene oxide.

Recalls
The FDA has not published a severity grade for these. Volume alone is not a quality signal: a manufacturer that ships more recalls more.
| Initiated | FDA class | Root cause | Reason | Quantity | Closed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2011-03-04 | Not classified | Process change control | The diameter of a component of the device is out of tolerance specification; the Delivery Pusher pull wire which secures the coil in place can prolapse and allow premature detachment of the coil. | 2082 | 2011-06-06 |
